Call to Action Checklist: Foraging
The field work for Survival Dispatch Insider Vol. 4 Issue 1, Foraging. Reading about wild food is one thing. Walking out and naming what you see is another.
Put together a simple foraging kit: a mesh bag, a small knife, a trowel and gloves. Learn to identify plants by leaf shape and color, then go outside and match what you find. On your walk, identify one edible plant and one dangerous plant in your area, and find natural tinder good enough to start a fire. Make a list of places and edges around your community where wild food grows. Collect reliable printed guides to the edibles where you live, laminated cards or books with color photos, and keep them with an outdoor journal. For deeper reading, the issue recommends Nature's Garden by Samuel Thayer.
